Julia La Ronde named her brand Sisserou rum and coconut cream liqueur after the national bird of Dominica. The Sisserou (or Amazonia Imperialis) lives only in the lush rain forests of this small island. The Sisserou Parrot is protected under the conservation laws and is probably among the oldest species of Amazon parrots in the world. Indigenous to Dominica, the Sisserou parrot is very vulnerable, but has adapted somewhat to changes in its habitat. The Sisserou is shy and is seldom seen in populated areas and found mainly in rain forests, chiefly at high elevations.
